10 Wilhelm Reich

Perhaps the most radical of all the psychoanalysts, in politics, technique and theory, Wilhelm Reich has had a considerable influence on 'counter-cultural' attitudes. His thinking about the psychological basis of fascism (including the 'red' fascism of the communist parties) places him in a continuum with other 'Freudian' Marxists such as Fromm and Marcuse. However, his thinking about the biological basis for psychological health, the function of the orgasm, and his speculation about a cosmic 'orgone' energy took his thinking way beyond the conventions of both science and society.
